La philosophie analytique et le « Quartet d’Oxford » / Analytic Philosophy and the « Oxford Quartet »

ARGUMENTAIRE
L’histoire de la philosophie analytique est généralement racontée depuis la perspective des grandes figures, majoritairement masculines, de l’histoire de la philosophie du langage (Frege, Russell, Moore, Austin, Wittgenstein). Or, la parution récente de l’ouvrage de Claire Mac Cumhaill et Rachael Wiseman, intitulé Metaphysical Animals. How Four Women Brought Philosophy Back to Life (à paraître en français chez Flammarion en 2024), a permis d’envisager l’histoire de la philosophie analytique autrement, depuis la perspective de quatre femmes philosophes, parmi les premières à avoir pu étudier la philosophie à l’université Oxford : Elizabeth Anscombe, Philippa Foot, Iris Murdoch et Mary Midgley. L’objectif de cette journée et d’inviter les autrices de cet ouvrage à dialoguer avec les jeunes chercheuses et chercheurs et à envisager ensemble une autre manière de concevoir l’histoire de la philosophie analytique en y intégrant ces figures majeures qui ont notamment révolutionné la philosophie de l’action et la philosophie morale.
The history of analytic philosophy is usually told from the perspective of the great, mostly male, figures in the history of the philosophy of language (Frege, Russell, Moore, Austin, Wittgenstein). However, the recent publication of Claire Mac Cumhaill and Rachael Wiseman’s Metaphysical Animals. How Four Women Brought Philosophy Back to Life (to be published in French by Flammarion in 2024), has made it possible to look at the history of analytic philosophy differently, from the perspective of four women philosophers, among the first to be able to study philosophy at Oxford University: Elizabeth Anscombe, Philippa Foot, Iris Murdoch and Mary Midgley. The aim of this day is to invite the authors of this book to engage in dialogue with young researchers, and to consider together a different way of conceiving the history of analytic philosophy, integrating these major figures who revolutionized the philosophy of action and moral philosophy.
